Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency sponsored a virtual dogfight. The tournament was related to fly simulated F-16 dogfights against an AI agent and a human being.
The third and final competition DARPA’s dogfight took place virtually on 18-20 August due to a pandemic situation. And the final result is, the AI agents won this dogfight.

And this is not only the first time when AI agents have outperformed humans. AI has also beaten doctors in diagnosing breast cancer. It is proved by research that AI mammograms can perform more accurately than doctors. Other than this, AI has also overtaken 20 corporate lawyers in the legal profession.

Let’s leave our arguments about win/loss discussion between AI and Humans. This competition has proved the accuracy of Artificial Intelligence Algorithms in our daily life. And that we can trust these machines in crucial matters of our lives like healthcare, finance, gaming, and many more.

The AlphaDogFights are all about proving the accuracy and trustworthiness of AI. By winning this fight against F-16 pilot, machine learning has come one step closer in the field of air-combat. Although a victory against the f-16 pilot is a big achievement, it does not mean pilots have become a thing of the past. AI agents will be used in drones as wingmen mainly.
